Five Animal Five Family Kung Fu traces its origin back to the famous Shaolin Temple in China. Its movements
are based upon the characteristics of 5 Animals- the Tiger, the Crane, the Snake, the Leopard, and the
Dragon; and on the methods devised by 5 famous martial arts families- Hung, Lee, Choi, Fut, Muk.
Martial Arts students at Energetic Arts Center begin with basic stances and footwork, and then progress to
forms. A form is a series of connected movements and techniques which allow the student to develop speed,
coordination and correct application of technique while building stamina, flowing strength and power.
There is no free sparring at Energetic Arts Center. All practice is non competitive, and techniques are
perfected through cooperative drills and partnership exercises. Forms include:
Salute, Small Cross, Butterfly, Frog (combination) Black Bird, Bull, Peacock (palms), Horse, Eagle,
Dog, Tiger, Crane, Snake. Leopard, Dragon, Hung Gao, Lee Gao, Choi Gao, Fut Gao and Muk Gao and others.
Training also includes the use of traditional Chinese weapons. After a basic level proficiency is acquired
through completing the first 6 empty hand forms, students learn the basic 4 weapon forms- 6 foot staff, 3
foot stick, double 2 foot sticks, and the 6 inch stick. These forms lay the foundation for all the other
weapon forms, which include:
Spear, Kwon Do, Halberd, Tiger Fork, Single and Double Broadsword, Single and Double Straight Sword,
Double Ax, Butterfly Knives, Sai, Hooked Cane, Single and Double Dagger, Iron Fan, 3 Section Staff,
Steel Whip, and others.
